Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Building

Built in 1907, architects Sir Arnold Thornley, Briggs and Wolstenholme. This impressive building was the first of the three Pier Head buildings to be built which now form the Pier Head group. Built from Portland stone and in the manner of an Italian Renaissance palace. There is placed upon the top of the building an impressive classical church dome and this is supported by a cluster of smaller domes. It has a lavishly decorated interior and exterior.
